Coast woman crowned Australia's best travel photographer
NOOSAVILLE photographer Lesley Downie has won Australia’s AIPP Professional Travel photographer of the year.
More than 400 of the country’s best professional photographers gathered in Melbourne for the Australian Professional Photography Awards – known as APPA – presented at a gala dinner at The Plaza Ballroom on Collins Street.
It was a double-celebration for Ms Downie who also won the title of Queensland AIPP Travel Photographer of the Year at the state awards in March.
Ms Downie said she was humbled to win the award.
She said a love of travel and documenting exotic cultures and destinations had become the basis of her fine-art collection.
Ms Downie, a member of the Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club, said she was passionate about photographing this exciting and growing sport.
In May 2016, she was the official photographer at the Va’a World Outrigger Sprint Championships.
