Ideas for an exotic dive holiday

Q My husband and I are learning to scuba dive and want to travel to Mexico for our first exotic dive holiday. We don’t want to stay anywhere too hectic, so would like to avoid Cancun, and don’t want to dive the whole time. We like exploring historical sites, so would be keen to see some of the ruined cities. We are unsure of the best time to travel and our budget is about £2,500 each.

A I suggest you head to Puerto Aventuras, south of Cancun and much quieter. The conditions are ideal for learning to dive; you can explore the famous cenotes — a network of subterranean rivers, caverns and sinkholes with crystal clear water — and it’s handy for tourist attractions.…
