It would be nearly impossible to try and avoid the latest trends both in conversations about lifestyle and traveling – the spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment nomadic lifestyle that has begun to receive quite a bit of attention. Naturally, people love the idea of being free to travel far-and-wide and explore the world. However, traveling can often be more stressful and require a bit more thought than a lot of these ‘lifestyle’ gurus would have you believe.

To be clear, traveling is often a wonderful, rewarding experience that helps you recharge your batteries and carry on in your daily routine but in order to best enjoy your travels a little bit of planning often goes a long way.

We are going to explore some important planning tips to make sure your next trip is as stress-free as possible.

First off, keep records! Nothing ruins a trip faster than not having access to your flight number, ticket information, or reservations. Not to mention that international travel – and, soon. domestically in the US – will require an official US passport or otherwise valid form of ID, you cannot spend too much making sure that you have all of your travel documents in order.

Especially given our propensity to rely on digital technology to come through for us in a pinch, there is nothing worse than realizing that your battery actually couldn’t last all those downloaded Netflix series or buzzfeed quizzes.

Start your trip off right and make sure that you have planned out your route and activities and know what you will need to present at each step of your journey.

Second, versatility is going to be key wherever you go (even when traveling to work)! While there are parts of the world where the weather is as predictable as the rising sun, other places might have weather forecasts measured in minutes and not hours. One thing that will ruin your day pretty quickly would be to expect sunshine and a few clouds to only be caught spending the day chafing because a flash storm caught you off guard.

Particularly as extreme weather events increase in frequency it doesn’t hurt to make sure your travel plans match your travel preparations. Always think about back-up activities that can happen during rainy or cloudy weather and vice versa.

Finally, when planning for your vacation make sure that your overall goal is to have a great time, of course.

While the spur-of-the-moment travel lifestyle is glorified on tv and social media, a little planning goes a long way to making sure your trip is as stress-free as possible.

Moreover, being more aware of all the things available to you, the possible weather events, and all the vital information you will need means that when you’re actively engaging your new locale you are far more present – you’ve already done majority of the thinking!
